Christopher Mwai is a graduate of the University of Embu with a Bachelor of Laws degree (Second Class Honours, Upper Division) and is currently undertaking the Advocates Training Programme at the Kenya School of Law. He is a Certified Professional Mediator and a graduate of the Strathmore Centre for Intellectual Property and Information Technology (CIPIT), where he completed a Data Protection course. He brings a wealth of experience and exposure in real estate and banking and finance, corporate and commercial practice, pensions, data protection and intellectual property, aviation, and legal research.
Christopher advises a diverse clientele, including local and international corporations, financial institutions and individuals, delivering practical, business-oriented legal solutions grounded in strong legal acumen and commercial insight. He has:
- Successfully advised on and handled over thirty (30) property transactions relating to a large-scale residential development comprising over 350 sectional units, including the drafting, review and variation of agreements for sale and the transfer of sectional property interests for both financed and cash buyers, and successfully worked on the drafting, review and registration of commercial lease agreements for a high-end retail mall, including the structuring of lease terms and ensuring enforceability under Kenyan land and commercial law.
- Successfully part of the team that advised a major foreign multinational technology company on the review and drafting of lease renewals, licences and ancillary documentation relating to its business premises in Kenya.
- Successfully assisted on the review and drafting of trust deeds and rules for multiple employee benefit schemes, including both provident and pension schemes.
- Successfully part of a team that handled several banking and finance matters, including advising on and facilitating the takeover of credit facilities for multiple leading banks in Kenya, as well as the perfection of securities for various lenders.
- Successfully part of a team that advised a foreign corporate entity on its regulatory establishment in Kenya, including registration as a data controller and data processor with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner in compliance with Kenya’s data protection legal framework.
