Ombo Malumbe is a strategic legal service provider and a co-founder of Ong’anya Ombo Advocates LLP dba O’Bang Law, where he heads the Corporate, Commercial & Cross-Border Practice. He has demonstrated impeccable expertise in providing corporate entities with business-oriented solutions for their local and cross-border needs in Kenya.

He leads the team that recently made O’Bang Law get ranked in the 2026 FinTech Rankings by Chambers & Partners for offering licensing solutions to FinTech entities in Kenya.

Ombo has advised Search Funds, multijurisdictional Data Breach, successfully applied for FinTech licenses’ from the Central Bank of Kenya, advised on ESG & Climate Financing to two multinationals, structured credit agreements for multinationals, conducting due diligence for hard commodities transactions worth more than US$500 million, saved entities from bad M&A deals, secured multinationals from being penalized by regulators in Kenya, advised a Chinese company on setting up a motorcycle assembly in Kenya, structuring the Government-to-Government requirements for air licensing between the Government of Kenya and the Kingdom of Bahrain, insolvency and dissolution mechanisms, strategic negotiated recovery of US$1.5 million for its Turkish Client, structuring multinational distributorship agreements, acts as liaison office for multinationals for transactions in Africa & Europe, among others.

He has, in three instances, represented Clients’ interests at the National Treasury and the National Budget Committee, resulting in changes to the definitions and application of tax laws in Kenya. These areas were touching on e-commerce and digital assets-related taxes.

Ombo has been highly recommended by ITR World Tax and ManagingIP IPStars for several years for Tax and Intellectual Property practices.

Experience:

  1. Advised Gulf Air B.S.C.(c) on its requirements for Government-to-Government engagement; thus, the Government of Kenya and the Kingdom of Bahrain.
  2. Advised a Chinese government-owned company, SUMEC, on its intended investment in Kenya for its Export Processing Zone (EPZ) projects, resulting in enabling it to understand the regulatory framework on its planned projects and the strategic measures required for the purposes of ensuring that it does not expose itself to any financial or reputational risks, and any litigation.
  3. Advised and prepared the agreement for L’Oreal touching on Environmental Social Governance (ESG), and Climate Financing in Kenya, which is meant to enhance its compliance with the local laws in Kenya and possible reporting requirements under the European Union (EU).
  4. Advised Lynscyber in its requirements for setting up an assembly plant in Kenya in compliance with the regulatory framework that touches on bonded warehouses, environmental factors, tax, standardization factors, labour, among others.
  5. Advised and represented Efam and UniDirect in applying for their licenses from the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), and they have both been issued their respective licenses from the CBK. Currently advising and representing 254 Capital and PayeCards in their DCP and PSP license applications, respectively.
  6. Advised and represented Sequioa China Limited in the acquisition of a property worth hundreds of millions and now managing its 644 Unit Project, known as Hephé Palace, whereby luxury apartments are being developed.
  7. Advising L’Oreal in the localization of its Data Protection Policies and Agreements to ensure that it is in line with its aspirations as a data protection-focused organisation. This results in developing 10+ policies and agreements to guide it towards data and privacy compliance.
  8. Advising a Confidential Client out of an M&A deal based on the assessment of the Term Sheets and responses issued to the Information & Clarification Request. The transaction was on an opportunistic structure post-COVID-19.
