Overview
Emmanuel is a Trainee Advocate with a focus on Data & Privacy Law, Intellectual Property, Financial Law, and Real Estate. He brings extensive experience in managing end-to-end trademark applications and navigating complex IP disputes. In the Fintech sector, he is part of the team that facilitates licensing for digital credit providers by conducting rigorous Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), drafting sector-specific policies, and managing critical liaisons with the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) and the ODPC.
He also handles debt collection, asset recovery, and e-commerce disputes. His commitment to legal excellence, rooted in his background at the Strathmore School of Law Clinic, was highlighted in 2023 when he was recognized as the Outstanding Leader of the Year during his tenure as the Under Finance Officer. He was:
- Part of the team that successfully advised L’Oreal in the localization of its Data Protection Policies and Agreements, aligning the same with the stringent requirements under the Laws and Regulations of the Republic of Kenya.
- Part of the team that successfully developed a case strategy for LIVA GLOBAL on a transaction concerning registration of the trademark “SIGARA (and logo)” in Kenya, which was initially rejected on the basis that it lacked the essential elements provided by the Trade Marks Act.
- Part of the team that successfully represented UniDirect (formerly Uni Limited) in applying for its Digital Credit Provider (DCP) license from the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), which was consequently issued to them.
- Part of the debt recovery team that successfully enabled our International Client to recover more than US$ 1.5 million in less than 12 months by negotiating very practical and favourable settlement terms, following advising our Client to forego the lengthy court processes.
