The 2026 AmCham Business Summit, a Trade and Investment Forum between the U.S. and East Africa, took place on September 9 and 10 at the Windsor Golf Hotel in Nairobi, Kenya. The theme for the Summit was “Advancing Mutual Prosperity Through Trade and Investment”. The conversations focused on East African trade, investment, and policy issues.
Key areas of focus
- High-Level Policy and Trade Harmonisation: The Dialogues around this subject dwelt on post-AGOA frameworks (noting that the U.S. President extended the legislation by 2 years on the 2nd of September 2026), and the need to achieve harmony with regard to trade policies across the East African Community.
- Digital Trade and Innovation: data governance, cross-border payments, AI regulation within the region and the expansion of the digital infrastructure.
- Healthcare: The panels covered partnerships between the private and public sectors, domestic manufacturing of pharmaceutical products and equipment, and regulatory approvals.
- Agriculture, Supply Chain and Climate Resilience: Discussions centered around the need for green transition investments, intergration of technology into agricultural practices, market access for smallholder farmers as well as large scale farmers and the need to equip farmers with resilient logistics networks.
